A céad míle fáilte to all members of Engineers Toastmasters.
It is certainly true that life passes more swiftly as we get older and as I begin
another year it’s hard to believe that my membership of our club spans almost two
decades. To stalwarts like myself, I welcome you back to new beginnings. I urge
you, this year, to challenge yourself to surpass your personal best and enjoy doing
so. To those of you who have joined in recent years I hope that you will continue to
inspire and delight us with your enthusiasm and talents.
And to those wishing to join our club let me assure you of a warm welcome and an assurance of
our encouragement and support. Our members come from all walks of life, male and female,
some young and the rest young at heart! All share a common purpose, to develop better
communication and leadership skills. Primarily the emphasis is on active participation for we
learn best by “doing”. The atmosphere in our club is relaxed and friendly but our standards are
high. Our achievements in recent years bears witness to this. We are very fortunate in having
the excellent facilities of the Engineers Club 22 Clyde Rd. at our disposal.May we continue to
honour the mission of Toastmasters in helping all to learn the art of speaking, listening and
thinking- all vital skills that promote self-actualisation, enhance leadership potential, foster
human understanding and contribute to the betterment of mankind.
May we be inspired by the following words of one of out great writers George Bernard Shaw-
“Life is a splendid torch and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to
future generations.”
Shine on fellow toastmasters.
